Creative Development

Children’s creative development happens in many ways, through a range of arts, crafts and design and technology. We aim to engage, inspire and challenge our children creatively, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills required in exploring existing works of art and design and designing, inventing and producing their own works of art, craft and design. The Creative Development curriculum provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and creative ways of understanding and responding to the world. All children also take part in the performing during the annual school presentations.

Primary: Arts, Crafts, Design and Technology

Arts, Crafts Design and Technology is about developing children’s personality and creativity. Children examine and explore natural and man-made objects and materials and use these to create their own work; expressing themselves through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials. They learn skills of drawing, painting, craft and constructing models. Children learn about famous artists, crafts people and designers. Children learn to articulate and communicate ideas, opinions and feelings about their own work, and that of others in evaluating works of art using the language of art and design. Children also learn about the interdependency of design and technology and develop skills in designing and planning products which they then create and display. Children evaluate the design process and their own work. Children’s creative learning is enhanced through outdoor learning, taking the children’s art and design learning out into the school grounds.

In Shakhsiyah Schools’ we provide activities that relate to children’s own identity and heritage including calligraphy, geometric design and patterns and Islamic architecture. Children also engage in activities learning about arts, crafts, design and technologies from their British heritage as well as a wide range of other cultures. The annual Islamic Inventions fair is a perfect opportunity to display, celebrate and evaluate the children’s’ artistic and technological capabilities. Children also have opportunities to enter art and design competitions.
