Mathematics

In Shakhsiyah schools, we understand that learning Mathematics equips pupils with a uniquely powerful set of tools to understand and change the world. These tools include logical reasoning, problem-solving skills and the ability to think in abstract ways. At Shakhsiyah Schools, children recognise that mathematics is not only a subject they learn in school, but a subject that will frequently help them to solve problems they meet in everyday life and understand many of the things they see. Mathematics provides opportunities for them to satisfy their curiosity and to use their creative abilities.

Our Mathematics teaching is geared towards enabling each pupil to develop confidence in their mathematical understanding and skills. Through positive teaching, teachers encourage an enthusiasm and fascination about Mathematics itself. During Independent study sessions children take on projects about famous mathematicians and problem solving using mathematics in real life scenarios.

From year 1 to year 6, children have daily mathematics lessons with a three part format:

  • Big Maths CLIC oral starter

  • Abacus main activity

  • Plenary
